Todd Blanche, xeer-ilaaliyaha waqtiga dhexe ee Mareykanka, wuxuu ku dhacay xad-dhaaf ka yimid xisbiga Jamhuuriga marka loo eego codsigiisa uga yimid guddiga sirdoonka ee Senaterada, iyadoo Senater John Cornyn uu sheegay inuu diyaar u ahayn inuu codsado.
Xaaladda hadda jirta ee codsiga Blanche
Todd Blanche, xeer-ilaaliyaha waqtiga dhexe ee Mareykanka, wuxuu hoggaamiyay Wasaaradda Xeer-ilaalinta tan iyo April, kadib markii uu ahaa xeer-ilaaliyaha labaad ee dowladda. Blanche wuxuu horay u shaqaynayay sirdoonka difaaca madaxweynaha Donald Trump ka hor inta uusan ku biirin xilka labaad ee Trump.
Senater John Cornyn, xisbiga Jamhuuriga, wuxuu sheegay inuu diyaar u ahayn inuu codsado Blanche, isagoo sheegay inaanu arkin wax qoraal ah oo ku saabsan arrimaha uu codsaday. Codsigu wuxuu imaanayaa maalintii hore ee guddiga sirdoonka ee Senaterada uu yeesho codsi ku saabsan Blanche.
Khilaafka ku saabsan xisaabiyadda Wasaaradda Xeer-ilaalinta
Cornyn wuxuu sheegay inuu ka xun yahay hogaaminta Blanche ee Wasaaradda Xeer-ilaalinta, gaar ahaan heshiis uu Blanche gudoon-geliyay bishii May, kaas oo u ogolaaday Trump iyo qoyskiisa inay ka badbaadaan baaritaannada taxane ah ee Wasaaradda Dhaqaalaha.
Heshiiskaas wuxuu sameeyay 'gacan-ka-dhigga' oo loo yaqaan 'anti-weaponisation fund', kaas oo dadka la sheegay inay u dhacayeen khilaaf siyaasadeed u ogolaan lahaa inay helaan lacag. Qareenka federaalka wuxuu go'aamiyay in heshiiskaas yahay mid sharci-darro ah, isagoo sheegay in Blanche uu ka shaqaynayo labada dhinac.
Arrimaha kale ee saameyn ku yeelan kara codsiga
Trump wuxuu sheegay in Blanche uu yahay mid aad u fiican, isagoo sheegay in Cornyn uu ka xun yahay sababtoo ah aanu u ogolaanin inuu codsado. Blanche wuxuu sheegay inuu yahay qof ka madax-bannaan madaxweynaha, balse wuxuu diiday inuu sheego inuu ahaa qofka difaaca Trump.
Xeer-ilaalinta Mareykanka waxay leedahay dhaqan dheer oo ku saabsan madax-bannaanida sirdoonka, iyadoo la sheegay in Blanche uu xisaabiyay inuu ku xad-gudbay xeerkaas. Senater John Kennedy wuxuu weydiiyay Blanche haddii uu u arko Trump 'dhaqaaq', isagoo Blanche uu ku jawaabay inuu ahaa qofka difaaca Trump, kadibna uu si degdeg ah u beddelay.
Interim Attorney General Todd Blanche is bracing for a Thursday vote by the Senate Judiciary Committee, but Republican Senator John Cornyn has declared he is not prepared to support the nomination, citing concerns over Blanche's handling of the Department of Justice.
Cornyn Raises Doubts Over Blanche's Stewardship
Republican Senator John Cornyn told reporters on Wednesday that he remains sceptical about confirming Blanche to the top federal law enforcement position in the country. Cornyn said, 'I'm not prepared to vote yes.'
Cornyn cited concerns about Blanche's current stewardship of the Department of Justice, which he has led in an acting capacity since April. He has previously served as deputy attorney general and worked as the Republican leader's criminal defence lawyer before joining President Donald Trump's second term.
The Anti-Weaponisation Fund Controversy
A key issue is a rare settlement Blanche brokered in May in response to a lawsuit Trump filed against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Under the deal, Trump and his family would be shielded from future IRS audits, and the scheme created a so-called 'anti-weaponisation fund'.
Blanche has backed away from the 'anti-weaponisation fund' amid bipartisan backlash, but Cornyn said he was awaiting written guarantees on the matter. Cornyn told reporters, 'I haven't seen a single piece of writing that is responsive to what I've requested.'
Trump Defends Blanche Amid Loyalty Questions
President Trump said, 'Well, all I can say is Todd Blanche is outstanding,' and suggested Cornyn might be upset because he did not endorse him. Trump said, 'Maybe John Cornyn's upset with me because I didn't endorse him. I don't know what it is, but I haven't heard that there's a problem.'
Critics have accused Blanche of placing his loyalty to Trump above all else, including by using the Department of Justice to prosecute the president's political adversaries. Senator John Kennedy, a Republican, asked at a mid-July hearing if Blanche considered Trump a 'friend', to which Blanche replied, 'I'm his lawyer,' before quickly correcting himself to say 'was his lawyer.'
