Ma jiraan dhul-dhacyo badan oo dhawaan ka dhacay adduunka?
Muddo bil ahayd, saddex dhul-dhac oo weyn oo dhaawac ku yimid dad badan ayaa ka dhacay Indonesia, Colombia iyo Mexico, halka labo dhul-dhac oo aad u xoog badan oo ka dhacay Venezuela ay ku dhinteen in ka badan 6,300 qof.
Dhul-dhacyada ugu weyn ee 2026
Warbixinta maamulka dhul-dhaca Mareykanka (USGS) waxay sheegaysaa in sanad walba ay jiraan 20,000 dhul-dhac oo adduunka ka dhaca, halkaas oo ka mid ah 55 dhul-dhac oo maalin walba ka dhaca. Dhul-dhacyada dhaawaca ku yimaada dadka waa kuwa dhaqdhaqaaqa leh, sida kuwa dhaqdhaqaaqa leh ee dhaqdhaqaaqa leh.
Dhul-dhaca ugu weyn ee 2026 wuxuu ahaa mid ka dhacay dalka Filibiin, kaas oo ahaa mid dhaqdhaqaaqa leh oo dhaqdhaqaaqa leh, halkaas oo ka dhacay dalka Venezuela, kaas oo dhaawac ku yimid dad badan.
Dhul-dhacyada adduunka iyo xaaladda 2026
Muddo 10 sano ahayd, adduunka waxaa laga helay 133 dhul-dhac oo dhaqdhaqaaqa leh, halkaas oo ka mid ah 91 dhul-dhac oo dhaqdhaqaaqa leh, halkaas oo ka mid ah 11 dhul-dhac oo dhaqdhaqaaqa leh.

A string of powerful quakes across the Philippines, Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia and Indonesia in 2026 has raised questions about whether the planet is shaking more than before. Analysis of a decade of United States Geological Survey data shows the year remains within normal parameters.
A Year of Major Quakes
In the past month alone, three earthquakes of magnitude 7 or above struck Indonesia, Colombia and Mexico, killing hundreds of people. Earlier in June, two powerful quakes seconds apart levelled swaths of northern Venezuela, while the Philippines recorded the strongest quake of the year at magnitude 7.8 off Mindanao, killing more than 100 people.
Venezuela's 7.2 and 7.5 quakes in June killed more than 6,300 people. The most recent quakes in Mexico in July and Colombia and Indonesia in August were all magnitude 7.4 or higher. None reached magnitude 8 or 9, the most destructive categories.
2026 Compared to the Past Decade
According to the United States Geological Survey, there are about 20,000 earthquakes recorded globally each year, roughly 55 a day. From 2016 to 2025, the world recorded an average of 133 earthquakes of magnitude 6 or greater each year, ranging from 99 in 2024 to 157 in 2021.
By mid-August this year, 91 earthquakes of magnitude 6 or above had been recorded worldwide, including 11 above magnitude 7. Both those numbers are slightly ahead of the past decade's pace but still within the normal range.
What Makes an Earthquake Deadly
What makes an earthquake deadly has less to do with its magnitude than where it hits. Depth, proximity to cities and the strength of local buildings matter more than the number on the Richter scale. The deadliest earthquakes of the past decade were not the largest ones; they were the ones that struck beneath population centres.
Earthquake size is measured on the moment magnitude scale, which reflects the energy released at an earthquake's source. Each whole-number increase represents about 10 times more ground shaking and roughly 32 times more energy released. Magnitude 7 earthquakes are considered major with the potential to cause significant loss of life and damage to buildings and infrastructure.
