Somalia's Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Salah Ahmed Jama officially launched the World Food Programme's Somalia Country Strategic Plan 2026–2030 on Tuesday, marking a major step toward strengthening food security and building resilience across the nation.
A High-Level Launch Event
The launch ceremony, organized by the World Food Programme, drew senior government officials, United Nations representatives, Somali diaspora members, ambassadors, and international partners to Mogadishu. The gathering underscored the broad coalition behind the initiative.
Among the dignitaries present were Director General Abdifatah Abdulkadir Farah (Hared) of the Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, and Director General of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, who both praised the strategic plan's alignment with national development priorities.
Strategic Priorities for Food Security
The new strategy targets both rural and urban communities, aiming to promote self-reliance among populations affected by drought, climate change, and conflict. It also supports long-term resilience and sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable Somali families.
WFP Country Representative Hamid Nuru, UN Deputy Secretary-General's representative George Conway, and Jawahir Dahir of the Somali Diaspora Committee all commended the partnership between the Federal Government and WFP, emphasizing coordinated efforts to revive agricultural production and improve living conditions.
Documentary Highlights Humanitarian Challenges
Participants viewed a documentary illustrating the impact of recurrent droughts on Somali families and the collaborative efforts underway to address these challenges. The screening served as a visual reminder of the urgency behind the strategic plan.
Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to working with development partners to strengthen food security, build resilience, and improve the livelihoods of Somali communities.
