BTS Returns to Latin America Amid Record Demand
BTS will arrive in Santiago in October 2026 as part of their comeback world tour, continuing a string of sold-out performances across Latin America. The group has already played sold-out dates in Mexico, with additional sell-out shows scheduled in Colombia, Peru, Argentina, and Brazil.
Demand in Mexico was so intense that President Claudia Sheinbaum contacted South Korean officials to explore adding more BTS dates to the itinerary, underscoring the region's deepening embrace of Korean pop culture.
Q_ARE: Chile's Own K-pop-Inspired Boy Band
Q_ARE, a six-piece boy band from Chile, answered an online casting call two years ago and went through a six-month audition process and rigorous training before debuting with their 2024 single 'Try Again.' Their single 'FÚ' was launched in May 2026, and ahead of its release, the group convened at a dance studio in Santiago to work on choreography.
The band does everything itself, from songwriting to choreography, aesthetics to video design. Their lyrics fuse English, Spanish, and Chilean slang, while their videos combine retro video games, bright flashing scene changes, and colorful makeup. They have their own fan group called 'Qniverse' with members from around the globe.
Korean Culture Deeply Rooted in Chile
There are more than 50 Korean restaurants in Patronato, a small neighborhood in Santiago that hosted the first wave of Korean migrants to the city throughout the 20th century. The Rey Sejong Institute, a Korean government-backed cultural institution, now has about 200 students studying Korean, four times more than when it started classes in 2019.
Valeria Vivar coordinates the Rey Sejong Institute in Santiago, which also runs a master's program in Korean Studies at Universidad Central. Santiago hosts an annual Korean cultural week, where visitors sample Korean food, browse cosmetics, and take part in K-pop dance contests.
