Spain's 2024 Ballon d'Or winner Rodri has signed a four-year deal with Barcelona, ending his seven-year spell at Manchester City after the Catalan club agreed to pay a fee in the region of £65m.
A New Chapter at the Nou Camp
The 30-year-old midfielder, who made 298 appearances for City, said he is ready to feel excitement again at a club that suits his personality. He described the move as a dream and expressed happiness about the fresh challenge ahead.
Rodri added that Barcelona is a hugely ambitious club and he will try to help achieve their objectives this season. He also praised new manager Hansi Flick, saying his style will be enriching and help him grow as a player.
A Proud Farewell to Manchester City
Rodri left City after winning 12 major honours, including four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three EFL Cups and the Champions League in 2023. His final two seasons were disrupted by injury, but he returned to top form at the 2024 World Cup.
In a heartfelt farewell, Rodri said Manchester shaped his whole life, citing personal milestones such as his brother graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University and his girlfriend working for the NHS. He expressed pride and gratitude for the unforgettable memories.
City's Summer of Change Continues
Pep Guardiola stepped down after a decade in charge, while John Stones and Bernardo Silva departed when their contracts expired. Silva joined Real Madrid, and City also sold Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji and goalkeeper James Trafford this summer.
Manchester City spent £116m on Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest and are in advanced talks with Lille over Ayyoub Bouaddi. They are also close to completing the sale of Tijjani Reijnders to Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah.
