Antonelli wuxuu yidhi: 'The race is not going to be easy. Overtaking is going to be difficult...' iyo 'Our long run pace on Friday was good too...'. Lammaanaha Mercedes lama ay dagaallin tan iyo Canada. Baahintu waa 12.30pm, tartanka 2pm.
Pole-sitter Norris says McLaren are in uncharted territory ahead of Sunday's 70-lap Budapest race
Lando Norris will start from pole at the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest on Sunday, 26 July 2026, his first since Las Vegas last November. Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli incurred grid penalties, reshaping the front rows for the 70-lap race.
Norris on pole as grid order shifts
Norris took pole position for the Hungarian GP, with Charles Leclerc promoted to second after Hamilton's three-place penalty for impeding Oscar Piastri. Piastri and Max Verstappen fill the second row. George Russell starts seventh after Antonelli's yellow-flag penalty.
McLaren finished first and second in Hungary in each of the last two years but scored only four podiums in the first 10 races of F1's new rules era. Norris said: 'We are in new man's land. It's our first time at the front, so we'll see what we can learn as we go and how we can adapt. I expect a very tough race, but it's not impossible.'
Penalised drivers plan recovery
Hamilton, penalised by stewards for the third straight weekend, said: 'I think the car is just strong all around. I think the team have done a really great job, and a really big thank you to everyone back at the factory for continuing to push and to bring parts each weekend.' He also noted the car is 'night and day different' from last year.
Antonelli leads Hamilton by 45 points and Russell by 50 in the standings. He said: 'The race is not going to be easy. Overtaking is going to be difficult, and we are now starting much further back that we could have been.' He added: 'Our long run pace on Friday was good too so we will be doing everything we can to fight for the win.'
Race conditions and broadcast
The Hungaroring offers limited overtaking due to few straights, but high tyre degradation should allow varied strategies. The Mercedes team-mates have not battled on track since Canada, where they nearly collided several times, adding interest to their recovery efforts.
Build-up begins at 12.30pm with the race at 2pm on Sunday, broadcast live on Sky Sports F1 and Sky Sports Main Event, and streamed via NOW. The article was published on Saturday 25 July 2026 at 20:35 UK time.
