Three-time Grand Slam champion returns to Draper's coaching setup as British player returns from injury
Andy Murray and Jack Draper appear to be working together again after the 24-year-old missed Wimbledon earlier this month. Draper is set to return at this week's Mubadala DC Open, where the pair were seen training together. Murray had previously joined his team in May.
Coaching arrangement and conditions
It was revealed in May that the three-time Grand Slam champion joined Draper's team after the player split with former coach Jamie Delgado. Murray imposed conditions, telling The Sun he would work with the team for only 'a few weeks' with nothing confirmed past Wimbledon.
Murray said he was candid with Draper about what he 'could and couldn't do', wanting to keep picking up his kids from school and enjoy family life. Draper told Sky Sports: 'He has always supported me. I've always had a great relationship with Andy.'
Training and fitness in Washington
Draper missed Wimbledon due to bone bruising in his left arm and was spotted training at the William HG FitzGerald Tennis Center this week alongside Murray. The session showed the British No 6 hitting the ball well with his left arm.
Murray watched from the back of the court as Draper worked through his session. The 24-year-old has played only six ATP Tour events this season because of an arm issue, and his ranking has taken a clear hit from the limited schedule.
Ranking drop and Grand Slam absence
Draper has dropped to No 147 on the ATP Tour rankings and will likely need to qualify for September's US Open after missing the main draw. He withdrew in the second round of last year's US Open with a left arm injury.
He has not competed at any Grand Slam since, skipping the Australian Open in January and the French Open in May. Draper said of Murray: 'It felt like a really good time to get Andy in my team. I've always wanted that because he's one of my biggest inspirations.'
