Sawirrada Satelayta oo Muujinaya Wabiyada Yar ee Yurub oo Qalalaan Qabay Abaarta
Xaaladaha abaarta ayaa sii xumaaday bartamaha iyo galbeedka Yurub tan iyo bilowgii xagaaga, iyadoo koonfurta England, waqooyiga Talyaaniga iyo qaybo ka mid ah bartamaha Yurub ay ka mid yihiin meelaha ugu darnaa, sida uu qabo Global Drought Observatory. Maamulka Joint Research Centre ayaa sheegay in wabiyada Loire, Po, Rhine iyo Danube ay gaareen heerar taariikhi ah oo hooseeya.
Baaxadda Abaarta iyo Heerarka Digniinta
Qiyaastii kala badh dhulka Yurub ayaa la kulma abaar, iyadoo 9 boqolkiiba ay gaadheen heerka digniinta, oo ay ku jiraan koonfurta Jarmalka, Hungary, Romania, Austria, Czech Republic iyo Slovakia, sida ku xusan Combined Drought Indicator bartamihii July. Xarumaha la socodka Yurub waxay filayaan in xaaladaha qalalan ay sii socdaan ilaa September.
Cutubka Open Source ee Al Jazeera ayaa falanqeeyay sawirrada satelayta oo muujinaya calaamadaha abaarta sii xumaanaysa, oo ay ku jiraan biyaha ka gurmaday wabiyada waaweyn, hoos u dhaca qoyaan dhulka iyo huruudda meelaha cagaaran ee magaalooyin dhowr ah. Tani waxay caddeynaysaa saameyn balaaran oo abaarta ah.
Wabiyada iyo Gaadiidka Doonta ee Jarmalka iyo Faransiiska
U dhow Moissac koonfur-galbeedka Faransiiska, isbarbardhig satelayt oo u dhexeeya May 21 iyo August 1 ayaa muujinaya isbeddel weyn oo ku yimid midabka dhulka beeralayda iyo dhirta ku xeeran Webiga Garonne. Horraantii July, maamulka Garonne wuxuu bilaabay hawlgelinta hore ee taageerida heerka wabiga, isagoo ku tilmaamay tan ugu horreysay tan nidaamka la soo saaray 1993.
Jarmalka, isbarbardhigyada sawirrada u dhow Kaub waxay muujinayaan balaadhin dhulka qaro iyo gravel ee kanaalka Rhine laga bilaabo May 1 ilaa July 29. Reuters ayaa soo wariyay in biyaha hooseeya ay gaareen heerar aan hore loo arag, taasoo joojisay marinka doonta meel cidhiidhi ah.
Saameynta Magaalooyinka iyo Dhulka Ingiriiska
England waxay diiwaangelisay 6.5mm roob bishii July, oo u dhiganta 10 boqolkiiba celceliska muddada dheer, taasoo ka dhigaysa Julygii ugu qalalan tan iyo diiwaannada la bilaabay 1836. Talaadadii la soo dhaafay, Environment Agency ee UK waxay ku dhawaaqday in 71.3 boqolkiiba England ay si rasmi ah u jirto abaar, iyadoo kaydka biyaha hoos u dhacay 69 boqolkiiba.
Sawirrada satelayta ee Hyde Park ee London bishii July 2025 iyo July 2026 ayaa muujinaya baaxadda abaarta. Vienna, sawirrada SkySat ee Auer-Welsbach Park waxay muujinayaan huruud iyo hoos u dhac dhirta intii u dhaxaysay July 22, 2025 iyo July 28, 2026.
New satellite imagery shows major European rivers reaching record-low levels as drought conditions worsen across the continent, with shipping disrupted and green spaces turning brown.
Record-Low River Levels Disrupt Shipping and Water Supplies
The European Commission's Joint Research Centre confirmed on Wednesday that the Loire, Po, Rhine and Danube rivers have reached record-low levels following continued hotter and drier conditions. The Rhine in Germany has seen unprecedented drops, bringing shipping traffic to a halt at a bottleneck where some vessels became stranded, according to Reuters.
Germany's inland waterway transport sector warned that the severe decline near Kaub could make commercial and tourist navigation impossible on parts of the river. Vessels are now operating with much lighter loads than usual due to reduced available draft, while the Danube's reduced flows are putting pressure on navigation, water supplies and the energy sector.
Satellite Comparisons Show Dramatic Changes in River Channels
Al Jazeera's Open Source Unit analysed satellite imagery showing retreating water in major rivers, declining soil moisture and the yellowing of green spaces. A time-series comparison of the Loire River near Saumur reveals a clear change in the river channel's shape during August from 2023 to 2026, with substantially larger exposed areas visible in the latest image.
Near Moissac in southwestern France, a satellite comparison from May 21 to August 1 shows a considerable change in the colour of farm areas and vegetation surrounding the Garonne River. In early July, the Garonne River management authority began an early operation to support river levels, describing it as the earliest such intervention since the system was introduced in 1993.
Cities Face Visible Drought Impact on Green Spaces and Rainfall
England recorded just 6.5mm of rainfall in July, equivalent to 10 percent of the long-term average, making it the driest July since records began in 1836. The United Kingdom's Environment Agency announced that 71.3 percent of England was officially in drought, including all areas of Greater London, while reservoir storage had fallen to 69 percent.
Satellite images of Hyde Park in central London captured in July 2025 and July 2026 show the scale of the severe drought, with vegetation vitality declining significantly. Similarly, high-resolution imagery from SkySat shows a striking visual change in the vitality of vegetation at Auer-Welsbach Park in Vienna between the summers of 2025 and 2026, documenting the arrival of water and heat stress at the heart of European cities.
