Sri Lanka waxay xidhay dugsiyada dhul-gariirka iyo daadadka ka dib markii ay neeftooda iska dhiibeen 7 qof
Roobab culus oo ku dhuftay gobolka shaaha ee buuraleyda ah ayaa sababay burbur iyo barakac
Sri Lanka waxay xidhay dugsiyada dhammaan dhul-gariirka dhexe ka dib markii roobab mahiigaan ah ay kiciyeen dhul-go'yo dilaa ah iyo daadad degdeg ah, kuwaas oo ay ku dhinteen ugu yaraan toddobo qof oo ay ku dhaawacmeen dhowr kale. Tani waxay dhacday iyadoo roobabku garaacay gobolka buuraleyda ah ee shaaha laga beero.
Dhimashada iyo Burburka Laga Soo Waro
Pradeep Kodippili, af-hayeenka Xarunta Maamulka Musiibada ee dawladda, ayaa sheegay in shan qof ay dhinteen ka dib markii dhul-go' ay qaaday laba guri oo ku yaal gobolka dhexe, laba kalena ay ku dhinteen daadad. Roobab iyo daadad ayaa waxyeeleeyay 129 guri oo ay qasbeen in qiyaastii 3,500 qof laga saaro, ayuu yidhi.
Masiibooyinkan ayaa ku dhacay dhul-gariirka dhexe, oo ay ku jiraan degmooyinka Nuwara Eliya iyo Badulla, kuwaas oo ku yaal dhul qotodheer oo muddo dheer loo arko inuu u nugul yahay dhul-go' xilliga roobka. Tani waxay muujinaysaa khatarta joogtada ah ee aaggan.
Tallaabooyinka Badbaadinta iyo Taariikhda Masiibada
Bishii Noofambar ee la soo dhaafay, Cyclone Ditwah ayaa dilay ku dhow 640 qof oo geysey khasaare lagu qiyaasay $4.1bn. Dabayaaqadii 2025, dhul-go' iyo daadad la xidhiidha Duufaantii Ditwah ayaa dilay dhowr iyo toban qof oo keentay xidhidh dugsiyo iyo xafiisyo.
Xaaladda Dugsiyada iyo Saadaasha Cimilada
Mas'uuliyiinta ma aysan sheegin goorta dugsiyada degmooyinka ay saamaysay ay dib u furmi doonaan, saraakiisha ayaana sheegay in go'aanku uu ku xidhan yahay sida cimiladu u horumari doonto maalmaha soo socda. Waxaa jirta hubanti la'aan xilligan.
Go'aanka dib-u-furista ayaa ku xiran horumarka roobabka, iyadoo bulshada maxalliga ah ay sugayaan warar rasmi ah. Tani waxay muujinaysaa baahida loo qabo la socodka dhow ee xaaladda cimilada ee gobolka.
Torrential rains have triggered deadly mudslides and flash floods across Sri Lanka's central highlands, killing at least seven people and forcing the closure of schools in the affected districts. The disaster struck the mountainous tea-growing region, which is still recovering from Cyclone Ditwah last November.
Deadly Mudslides and Floods Claim Lives
At least seven people have lost their lives as a result of the floods and mudslides that swept through Sri Lanka's central region. Five of the victims were buried when mudslides overran two houses, while two others were killed directly by floodwaters.
Pradeep Kodippili, spokesperson for the government's Disaster Management Centre, confirmed the death toll and reported that the rains and flooding have damaged 129 houses and forced the evacuation of nearly 3,500 people from their homes.
Military Deployed to Rescue Trapped Residents
Authorities have deployed navy and army units to reach residents trapped by the floodwaters, with local broadcaster Hiru TV showing troops wading through submerged streets to rescue stranded families in the worst-hit areas.
The districts of Nuwara Eliya and Badulla sit on steep terrain long recognised as prone to landslides during the monsoon season, when saturated hillsides give way under sustained rainfall, making rescue operations particularly challenging.
Schools Remain Closed Amid Ongoing Weather Concerns
Sri Lanka has shut down schools across its central highlands after torrential rains triggered deadly mudslides and flash floods, killing at least seven people and injuring several others in the mountainous tea-growing region.
Authorities have not said when schools in the affected districts will reopen, and officials say the decision will depend on how the weather develops over the coming days, as the country continues to grapple with repeated extreme weather events.
