A Rare Reunion in the Outback
The event, held about 220 kilometres north-east of Alice Springs, has been a fixture of the region for nearly eight decades, drawing people from across the Territory to celebrate community spirit.
Many stations in the area are enjoying their best season in recent memory thanks to significant rainfall, though some are still recovering from damaging floods that struck earlier in the year.
Community Resilience and Shared Joy
Harts Range Races life member Jo Fogarty, from Lucy Creek Station, which is still undergoing repairs, said the gathering was a welcome chance to reconnect after months of hardship.
Especially this area with all the rain people have had, it's good just to get together and have a yarn, she said, adding that the community is very caring.
Competition and Celebration on the Field
Jake Dallaglio claimed the feature Stockman's Cup after a dramatic comeback, finishing the race as the sun set over Harts Range following an earlier afternoon struggle.
First race didn't go so well, I came second last, he said, noting that to win, that's a pretty cool feeling, while newcomers like Sydney-based Jacob Portelli aim to win a trophy buckle.
