Guddiyaha Boqortooyada ee Sharcinimada Yuhuudda iyo Isku-dheellitirka Bulshada ayaa loo sheegay in ficilada dibi-mudaaharaadayaasha pro-Falastiin ee Sydney ay ahaayeen 'foosha xun'. David Ossip, oo ah madaxa Jewish Board of Deputies, ayaa ka hadlay guddiyaha. APAN iyo Palestine Action Group waxay heleen ogolaansho ay su'aalo weydiiyaan.
Baaritaanka iyo Tusaalaha Mudaaharaadka
Guddiyaha Boqortooyada ee Sharcinimada Yuhuudda iyo Isku-dheellitirka Bulshada ayaa baaraya sida booliisku uga jawaab celiyaan mudaaharaadyada. Waxay tusaale u dhigteen mudaaharaadkii pro-Falastiin ee u dhexeeyay Town Hall iyo Sydney Opera House 9kii Oktoobar 2023, iyo shirweynihii neo-Nazi ee dibedda NSW Parliament 8dii Noofambar 2025.
David Ossip wuxuu markii ugu horreysay maqlay mudaaharaadkii 9ka Oktoobar fiidkii 7da Oktoobar, wax yar ka dib markii Hamas uu weeraray Israel. Taallada Sydney Opera House waa la iftiimiyay buluug iyo caddaan si loogu midoobo Yuhuudda iyo Israa'iiliyiinta Australia.
Walaac iyo Dhibaatooyin Bulsho
Community Security Group NSW waxay xiriir la samaysay NSW Police oo ku saabsan walaacyada ammaanka mudaaharaadkii 9ka Oktoobar. Iyadoo ay taladinayso booliiska, Jewish Board of Deputies waxay u sheegtay bulshada Yuhuudda inay ka fogaadaan Town Hall iyo Sydney Opera House habeenkaas.
Ossip wuxuu yidhi talada ka fogaanshaha CBD-da waxay leedahay 'saameyn nafsiyeed qoto dheer' bulshada Yuhuudda ee dhaawacantay. Inta lagu guda jiray mudaaharaadkii, qaar ayaa ku heesay 'where's the Jews?' iyo 'f*** the Jews', calanka Israa'iilna waa la gubay.
Hadalka Maxkamadda iyo Jawaabta Booliiska
Markii la isweydaarsaday, Ossip wuxuu yidhi 'waxaan u maleynayay in dhaqankoodu ahaa mid foosha xun' wuxuuna ku tilmaamay 'muuqaal ceeb caalami ah iyo sumcad xun'. Commissioner Virginia Bell ayaa faragelin ku sameysay isweydaarsiga Ossip.
Deputy Commissioner Peter McKenna wuxuu ka hadlay jawaabta booliiska; laba qof oo xidhan calanka Israa'iil ayaa la xirey. McKenna wuxuu yidhi booliisku kama uusan go'doomin in mudaaharaadku ka maqnaan karo, wuxuuna maray Supreme Court si uu u joojiyo mudaaharaadyo Opera House.
The Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion heard scathing testimony from the Jewish Board of Deputies president describing pro-Palestinian actions in Sydney as a 'scene of international disgrace and infamy' during a tense exchange with Palestinian advocacy lawyers.
Jewish Leader Condemns Protester Conduct
David Ossip told the inquiry that the October 9 rally, organised by the Palestine Action Group, was 'a scene of international disgrace and infamy' and 'amongst the clearest examples of antisemitism we have seen over the past few years'.
He said he first learned of the rally on the evening of October 7, shortly after Hamas attacked Israel, and struggled to understand why a protest was called while attacks were still occurring.
Police Response and Community Impact
On the advice of police, the Jewish Board of Deputies told the community to avoid the CBD, a move Ossip said had 'profound psychological impacts' on the traumatised Jewish community two days after October 7.
NSW Police Acting Deputy Commissioner Peter McKenna told the inquiry that officers on the ground did not feel the protest was at risk of getting out of control, despite a flare being launched over police heads.
Commissioners and Advocacy Groups Engage
The Australia Palestine Advocacy Network and the Palestine Action Group were given leave to question witnesses, with lawyer Dominic Toomey SC cross-examining Ossip on the timing of the protest relative to the Hamas attacks.
Commissioner Virginia Bell intervened to ensure the inquiry remained focused, stating she would rule inadmissible any questioning falling outside matters properly before the commission.
