Monsoon-driven disaster damages tens of thousands of homes and water facilities across seven districts as response efforts expand.
Heavy monsoon rains, flash floods, and landslides continue to impact communities across Bangladesh. An estimated 1.28 million people are affected in seven districts, including more than 15,500 persons with disabilities. Approximately 480,000 require humanitarian assistance and 59 deaths were reported as of 22 July 2026.
Widespread Damage to Housing and Services
A total of 74,479 houses have been damaged or destroyed by the disaster. Flooding has fully or partially damaged 29,076 water points and 36,550 latrines, undermining basic infrastructure in affected communities across multiple administrative areas.
Safe water and sanitation are severely affected across 42 upazilas in six districts. The scale of damage to essential facilities has disrupted daily life and increased public health risks for displaced and host populations alike.
Livelihood Losses and Economic Impact
Approximately 27,007 hectares of cropland have been affected, and more than 266,000 livestock have been impacted by the floods and landslides. The damage has directly threatened food security for rural households in the seven districts.
Combined losses to the livestock and fisheries sectors are estimated at US$17.3 million across the affected districts. The economic blow compounds existing vulnerabilities as recovery and assessment work continues.
Forecast and Ongoing Response
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Bandarban, Chattogram, and Cox's Bazar. Moderate- and low-risk landslide advisories were issued for those same districts amid active monsoon conditions.
Government authorities, humanitarian organizations, and development partners continue to scale up response efforts. Support includes food assistance, cash support, health services, protection, shelter assistance, and WASH support for affected populations.
