Baker Boy's Djandjay Takes Home Three Major Awards
Danzal Baker, known professionally as Baker Boy, released the album Djandjay last year and dedicated it to his grandmother, his Momu. The album marked a shift from his earlier 'Fresh Prince of Arnhem Land' sound, embracing heavier, grungier tones that address serious topics including the voice referendum, impostor syndrome and systemic racism.
The track Thick Skin, which features Thelma Plum, Emma Donovan, Kee'ahn and Jada Weaze, was the standout single from the record. It secured both Song of the Year and Film Clip of the Year at the 2026 NIMAs, held on 8 and 9 August 2026.

Butchulla duo Birdz and Fred Leone were crowned Artist of the Year at the 2026 NIMAs, following the release of their debut joint EP GIRA last year. The cousins combined Birdz's hip hop production with Fred Leone's songwriting to create a powerful six-track record.
