Nigerian authorities have detained a popular social media personality, Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, also known as KC Luxury, accusing him of coordinating an international cocaine trafficking network that moved 184.5kg of the drug through Lagos before it was intercepted.
The Arrest and Seized Drugs
Micheal, 49, was stopped at Lagos's Murtala Mohammed International Airport on 13 August while attempting to board a business-class flight to Paris. Investigators say he was a senior figure in a trafficking operation that routed cocaine from South America through Nigeria to Europe and Asia.
The drugs were discovered on 3 August inside brown boxes at a courier facility in Lagos, valued at nearly $28 million. Officers also found more than $12,840 in cash and high-value jewellery on Micheal, which the agency said could be linked to profits from the operation.
A Second Suspect and Wider Network
A second man, 33-year-old Lawal Mujab Kehinde, was arrested in connection with the case. The NDLEA alleges he worked for a logistics company used to move the cocaine and helped prepare the drugs for shipment before being paid in cash.
Nigerian authorities say arrests linked to the suspected network have also been made in the UK by law enforcement agencies there. The NDLEA has not released further details about the individuals arrested overseas.
Investigation Continues
NDLEA chairman Buba Marwa said the case highlighted the importance of cooperation between agencies investigating international drug trafficking. He added that Nigerian authorities would continue trying to identify and arrest other people believed to be involved in the operation.
Micheal, who uses the name KC Luxury online and has around 700,000 Instagram followers, has not publicly addressed the accusations and has not been charged in court. Both suspects remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
