Ema, a Mountain View startup that deploys teams of AI agents to automate corporate workflows, has raised $77 million in a Series B round led by Creaegis, bringing its total funding to $140 million and more than quadrupling its valuation from 2024.
Funding Details and Company Background
The round consisted entirely of primary equity, with no debt or secondary transactions, and was joined by existing investors Accel, Section 32, and Prosus. Founded in 2023 by former Google and Coinbase executive Surojit Chatterjee and ex-Okta executive Souvik Sen, Ema has grown to nearly 200 employees across offices in Bengaluru, London, and Vancouver.
Ema deploys technology it calls 'AI employees' — systems that coordinate multiple AI agents to carry out multi-step business processes across a company's existing applications. The startup has more than 50 active enterprise deals, over 1 million active enterprise users, and has handled more than 5 million actions and queries since its inception.
Revenue Growth and Market Position
Over the past two years, Ema's revenue has grown 50-fold, with revenue bookings surpassing $150 million. The startup has maintained gross margins of close to 80% and a net dollar retention rate of around 180%, while more than 90% of its customers have expanded beyond their initial use case.
Ema's pricing is tied to the completion of tasks and business outcomes rather than software seats or AI tokens consumed. The company declined to disclose its current annualized revenue run rate or its latest valuation, but Chatterjee noted that frontier AI labs are not direct competitors and that progress in frontier models is actually very beneficial to Ema.
Strategic Outlook and AI Disruption
Chatterjee said that 'Many of our customers are already on the way to replace [large SaaS applications] completely, removing dependency on them, because they are mostly becoming like a database.' He added that AI can take over some of the implementation, integration, and consulting work that companies have traditionally paid IT services firms to perform around enterprise software.
Much of Ema's new capital will go toward expanding its go-to-market operations, particularly sales and marketing. The startup plans to expand into new markets over the next year, particularly across Asia-Pacific, South America, and parts of the Middle East, building on its existing customer base that includes NTT DATA, Hitachi, ADP, PwC, Google, KPMG, Wipro, and Microsoft.
