Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg opened the company's annual Connect event in Menlo Park on Wednesday, declaring that the social giant is going all-in on its personal AI agent, Muse, which launched in early September and is now receiving a wave of new features and integrations.
A Personal AI That Works in the Background
Muse, powered by Muse Spark, Meta's multimodal AI model designed for agentic work, is built to handle everyday tasks by connecting to users' apps and services, including email and calendars. The agent operates in the background and checks back in when it has completed its work, allowing users to delegate responsibilities without constant oversight.
Meta's chief AI officer Alexandr Wang told the audience that Muse can help run a small business or simply get work done for users. He added that the agent can continue working on all assigned jobs even after a user walks away from their computer, marking a significant step toward autonomous personal assistance.
Digital Avatars and Smart Glasses Integration
One of the most notable new features is the ability for Muse users to create a distinct digital avatar and video chat with it in real time. This capability is powered by a new AI model called Muse Realtime Avatar, which gives the previously faceless software a face, body, and voice to make interactions more personable and engaging.
Meta also announced that Muse will be integrated with its smart glasses line, allowing users to communicate with the agent simply by speaking to their glasses. The agent activates via a wake word and can guide users through personalized workouts, log meals, book appointments, and help them purchase products they see, with a launch expected in the coming months.
Expanded Shopping Partnerships and Developer Ecosystem
Meta has secured partnerships with major companies including Stripe, Shopify, PayPal, Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart, and Wayfair, enabling Muse to access product catalogs and facilitate purchases across the internet. The agent can use Lync and Shop Pay to buy almost anything online, while also connecting with travel and grocery services like Expedia and Instacart.
To further expand its ecosystem, Meta recently opened its platform to allow developers to build their own connectors for Muse. The company received more than 1,500 applications in less than a week, with Wang describing the response as really great and calling it a generational opportunity to build for a new platform as it takes off.
