Jason Aten, a contributing editor at Inc Magazine, shared screenshots on Threads showing Muse asking him questions about a conversation in Messages. Aten had not granted Muse access to his messages, yet the assistant appeared to know about their contents.
When pressed about how it knew, Muse replied, 'I saw the notification previews, not your message history. I haven't been reading your texts.' When asked further how it received those previews, it admitted, 'Honest answer: I can't give you the exact plumbing.'
Meta's Response and the Real Issue
David Singleton from Meta Superintelligence Labs clarified that Muse does not watch notifications on the Mac but syncs data from Messages only after the user has specifically enabled access. He apologized for the incorrect response and said they are working to improve Muse's understanding of its own internals.
