MapQuest ku guuleystay koobka ugu sarreeya Apple-ka Maraykanka kadib inay diideen amarkii Trump ee loo bedelayo magaca Lake Ontario

MapQuest wuxuu noqday app-ka ugu horreeya ee lagu iibsado Apple-ka
App-ka MapQuest wuxuu noqday kan ugu horreeya ee lagu iibsado Apple-ka Maraykanka, halka uu Google Maps ku jiro koobka labaad. Isticmaalka app-ka ayaa kor u kacay ilaa 50 jeer oo ku dhaw, waxaana noqday kan afaraad ee ugu badan ee lagu iibsado dhammaan app-yada, iyadoo laga saaray ciyaaraha.
Tani waxay timid kadib markii Trump uu 27-kii August 2026 soo saaray amri federaal ah oo lagu amray hay'adaha inay yiraahaan 'Lake America' halkii la yiraahdaa Lake Ontario. MapQuest wuxuu diiday inuu beddelo magaca, isagoo sheegay inuu raacayo qaabka ay u shaqeeyeen markii la bedelayo magaca Gulf of Mexico 2025-kii.
Dowladaha iyo shacabka ayaa diidan beddelka magaca
Shacabka Maraykanka ayaa diidan beddelka magaca, iyadoo doorasho Reuters/Ipsos ay sheegtay in kaliya 14% ay taageersan yihiin amarka Trump. Wuxuuna ku jiraa 20% oo kaliya taageersan dhaqaalaha Canada, halka 57% ay diideen.
Waxaa la sameeyay calaamad weyn oo lagu yiraahdo 'Lake Ontario – Now and Always' oo ku taal Grimsby, Ontario, halkaas oo premier-ka Doug Ford uu sheegay in magaca uu noqon doono Lake Ontario muddo badan.
Apple iyo Google ayaa kala duwan ku noqday arrintan
Apple Maps wuxuu sii waday inuu muujiyo magaca Lake Ontario, halka Google uu beddelay magaca ee Maraykanka kaliya. Doug Burgum, wasiirka gudaha, wuxuu sheegay inuu 'confident' yahay in Apple weli beddeli doonto.
MapQuest wuxuu sidoo kale bixiyay fursad shacabka inay beddelaan magaca, isagoo sheegay inuu raacayo qaabka ay u shaqeeyeen markii la bedelayo magaca Gulf of Mexico 2025-kii.
MapQuest has surged to the top of the US Apple App Store navigation rankings after refusing to rename Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' in defiance of a Trump executive order, becoming the fourth most popular app in the country.
MapQuest's Defiance Pays Off
MapQuest, a 30-year-old mapping company, has become the most downloaded navigation app in the US after standing firm against the president's directive. The app's downloads soared to 50 times its usual rate, pushing it to the top of Apple's navigation chart and fourth overall, excluding games.
The company's general manager, Doug Berger, said usage was running at about 50 times its usual rate. He also revealed that MapQuest is offering subscribers the chance to generate their own name for the lake, continuing a strategy first used after the Gulf of Mexico was rebranded in 2025.
Competitors and Public Backlash
While MapQuest resisted, Google Maps quickly showed 'Lake America' to US customers, though it still displays 'Lake Ontario' for international users. Apple Maps continued to show the original name as of Tuesday morning, despite pressure from the White House and comments from Interior Secretary Doug Burgum.
Public opinion has largely rejected the renaming effort. A Reuters/Ipsos poll found only 14% of Americans approved of the change, while 57% opposed higher tariffs on Canadian goods. In Canada, MapQuest became the second-most downloaded app overall by Sunday night.
Political and Community Pushback
Ontario's premier, Doug Ford, stated that the lake would remain Lake Ontario, while a giant bilingual sign reading 'Lake Ontario – Now and Always' was erected near Grimsby. Three Democratic US representatives introduced the 'Hands Off Our Great Lakes' act to block the federal order.
MapQuest's social media presence has been equally defiant. On 28 August, it posted in all capital letters: 'Our maps are big and beautiful. People come up to us and say we'll get them places. And we do!' The company also responded to a poster surprised by its existence, noting that RadioShack is still around too.
