iRobot has revealed its latest flagship robot vacuum, the Roomba Max 875, which will debut at IFA in Berlin under its new owner, Picea Robotics. The device introduces SealForce, a system that lowers a skirt around the cleaning head to create a tighter seal on carpets, delivering three times deeper cleaning than suction alone.
SealForce and Suction Power
The Roomba Max 875 Combo is priced at $1,199 and features a new vane-type blower motor that moves 20 L/s of air per second. iRobot chief engineer Adam Pope says the system delivers 35,000 Pa of suction, the highest the company has ever published. The 875 uses a single rubber brush instead of the dual rollers found in earlier models, a change made to accommodate the improved carpet seal.
SealForce lowers a skirt around the cleaning head when carpet is detected, directing airflow deeper into the pile. Pope says this technology is new to iRobot but not to the robot vacuum industry, as competitors Narwal and Dreame have developed similar variations on their own flagships.
Mopping and Smart Features
The 875 Combo also includes a self-cleaning roller mopping system with a heated mist feature called ThermaMist, which sprays ahead of the mop to pretreat stains. The mop has a retractable cover that extends during vacuuming to keep carpets dry and can reach along edges. An auto-empty and wash dock automatically cleans the mop with hot water and dries it with hot air.
Both the 875 and the midrange Roomba Plus 678 Combo work with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Siri Shortcuts, and are currently undergoing Matter certification. The 678, priced at $899, includes SealForce and a SprayForce stain-treatment system but drops to 30,000 Pa suction and 18 L/s airflow.
Navigation and Physical Capabilities
The Roomba 875 uses lidar and camera-based vision to navigate and detect obstacles, and it has a slimmer footprint than the previous Roomba 775. It can climb thresholds up to 3.5 cm high, making it suitable for homes with multiple floor levels.
The 875 is available now at irobot.com, marking iRobot's first major product launch since Picea Robotics purchased the company out of bankruptcy in January. The device represents a more practical approach to cleaning, focusing on improved vacuuming performance rather than flashy mechanical additions.
