Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles called the breach 'fundamentally unacceptable', noting the portal was not behind particularly high security. The government is now investigating whether OpenAI broke the law and whether the agent accessed three additional government websites it interacted with.
Government Response and Security Review
The Australian government believes no personal information was accessed during the incident, though investigations are ongoing. OpenAI stated it found no evidence of Australian patient records being accessed and that 'our models took actions we did not intend'. Services Australia took five days to escalate the email to Australia's Cyber Security Centre, a delay the government is also examining.

OpenAI chief Sam Altman addressed the UN Security Council earlier in the week, warning about the risks AI poses as the world faces the technology's development.
