"We're not the finished article. We're not going to kid ourselves. That'll be a constant work in progress," Root told BBC Test Match Special. Experts See Talent But Warn of Work in Progress
Former England captain Michael Vaughan agreed the team is a work in progress, stating that England have not won a five-Test series since 2017 and that is what they get judged on. He highlighted the talent in the squad, including Jordan Cox, Root, Harry Brook, Dan Lawrence and Jamie Smith.
Vaughan noted that the bowling attack has everything and praised the calmness of Cox and the batting of Root and Brook. However, he cautioned against getting too excited, saying the team must be measured against the standard of winning five-Test series, a benchmark not met since 2017.
