Hughes was instrumental in appointing Arne Slot as Jürgen Klopp's successor, with the Dutchman going on to win the Premier League in his first season at the club. He also played a key role in bringing in Andoni Iraola as head coach following Slot's departure at the end of a disappointing 2025-26 campaign.
His tenure has been marked by significant transfer activity, including the £125m signing of Alexander Isak and the £116m arrival of Florian Wirtz. However, Liverpool finished fifth last season, prompting Slot's exit and further reshaping of the squad under Iraola's leadership.
