AS Monaco are exploring transfers to Turkey and Saudi Arabia after Folarin Balogun called off his $45 million move to Everton, citing concerns over his treatment during the medical process.
Balogun Abandons Everton Transfer
Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro confirmed that Balogun pulled out of the deal in the early hours of Wednesday, despite both clubs and the player signing a Deal Sheet just minutes before the transfer window closed. The player reportedly felt uneasy about signing a long-term contract after the medical team raised doubts about his health and future at the club.
Scuro stated that Everton had raised questions about the medical results around 7 p.m., which his staff found difficult to justify. It took Everton two to three hours to review the assessment, and although paperwork was completed five minutes before the deadline, Balogun ultimately decided not to sign the contract.
Monaco Seek New Markets for Balogun
With the Premier League window now closed, Monaco are looking to other markets, including Turkey and Saudi Arabia, where transfer windows remain open until September 4 and October 12 respectively. Scuro expressed willingness to discuss the player's future, noting that these leagues have the financial capacity to make a move happen.
The club also attempted to offload midfielder Lamine Camara to Chelsea, capitalising on reports that Balogun was failing his medical. However, once Everton confirmed there were no issues with the medical, Monaco abandoned the Camara deal, stating it was fair and part of the game.
Everton Frustrated by Delays
Sources revealed that Everton were frustrated by Balogun's late arrival on a private flight from France and Monaco's failure to provide required medical documents in time. These delays complicated the process and contributed to the overall uncertainty surrounding the transfer.
Despite the renegotiation of terms and the signing of the Deal Sheet, the situation ultimately fell through due to Balogun's decision. Scuro acknowledged the player's concerns but maintained that the club had done everything possible to finalise the deal within the constraints of the transfer window.
