Leeds United managing director Robbie Evans says the club and manager Daniel Farke are 'on the same page' as they work toward a new long-term contract, with Evans describing the German as having done 'a fantastic job' in his first full season in charge.
Contract Talks Progressing Smoothly
Evans said that over the past three months, Farke and his team have had 'really good chats' and that both sides are aligned on the key terms of a new deal. Unlike the rushed circumstances of Farke's original signing in 2023, the current negotiations are unhurried, giving the club time to ensure the agreement reflects what both parties want.
Evans added that he is 'not worried' about the pace of the talks, noting that the process is simply about getting it right. He said the short answer is that Farke has 'done great' and that the club wants him to be here 'long-term' as they continue working toward a finalised agreement.
A 'Good Window and a Good Deadline'
Evans contrasted this summer with last year, saying the previous season was 'a good window and a bad deadline,' whereas this summer has been 'a good window and a good deadline.' The club secured its top targets early — a left-footed centre-half, a right winger and a goalkeeper — which allowed them to strengthen further around the pitch with time to spare.
The Whites signed England goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City for up to £45m, along with defenders Tarik Muharemovic and Nico Elvedi, and winger Harry Wilson. On deadline day, they also added Nice defender Melvin Bard and Eintracht Frankfurt forward Jean-Matteo Bahoya, leaving Evans satisfied with the overall business.
Struijk Sale Key to PSR Compliance
Netherlands international Pascal Struijk was sold to Brighton for a reported £20m on 30 June, the final day clubs needed to comply with profit and sustainability rules to avoid charges or points deductions. Evans said he was 'thankful' the club only needed to sell one player to come into line with the regulations, which are now being replaced by a squad-cost ratio system.
Evans explained that the FA Cup run and minimal January activity had kept the number of players needing to leave down to just one. He said Struijk's interest in other clubs was 'clear before the year was over' and that he was 'helpful in deciding pretty quickly,' allowing Leeds to finalise the sale before the 30 June deadline.
