Reigning Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris has signed a new contract with McLaren that keeps him at the team until at least the end of 2030, with a multi-year option to commit beyond that date.
A Decision Made Easy
Norris said signing the new deal was 'quite an easy yes for me' and that he 'didn't even have a look' at other teams before committing his future to McLaren, where he made his F1 debut in 2019.
He acknowledged there was 'some interest from elsewhere,' but added: 'I don't want to go anywhere. I don't want to be with another team. I don't want to spend time with other people.' He described it as 'one of the easiest decisions I've made since being in Formula 1.'
A Shared Journey of Success
Norris credited the team's loyalty, saying: 'The fact I stuck it through with them and then we went on to obviously have success certainly makes me feel like I don't want to... they didn't give up on me and I didn't give up on them.'
Team principal Andrea Stella praised Norris as 'an exceptional driver, who combines outstanding natural speed with maturity, consistency and a strong commitment to McLaren,' noting he 'played a central role in bringing the team back to the front of Formula 1.'
Defending the Title
Norris, who won the 2025 drivers' title, is now 83 points behind championship leader Kimi Antonelli with 11 races remaining. He said: 'I'm starting the fight of defending it. I'm trying. I'm doing my best. We all are.'
McLaren has improved significantly after a tough start, with Norris winning the past two grands prix in Hungary and the Netherlands. He said: 'I believe we're in the best place we've ever been even with a tough start to the season. And I believe that we can fight through anything together for sure.'
