The move was confirmed this week to The Register, which reported that Tottenham has moved its server, storage, and networking infrastructure to HPE solutions delivered through the GreenLake hybrid cloud management platform. The transition represents a strategic decision to reduce dependency on a single vendor and lower long-term operational costs.
Modernizing Infrastructure with HPE's Hybrid Cloud Approach
The stadium's infrastructure move is underpinned by VME and HPE's OpsRamp software for hybrid and multi-cloud environments, according to Rob Pickering, Tottenham's CTO. HPE is in charge of the hybrid cloud-managed service, ensuring that the club's complex, multi-site environment is managed more efficiently while modernizing virtualization platforms and reducing operational overhead.
Tottenham is almost done with a broader redesign of its stadium's data center and network infrastructure. The facility features a data center with six aisles that uses HPE's ProLiant Compute Gen12 server hardware and Alletra Storage MP, reflecting a comprehensive upgrade to support the club's growing digital demands.
CTO Reflects on the Hypervisor Market and Vendor Choices
Pickering told SDxCentral that the club is at the right time of its replacement cycles to be looking at those decision points. He noted that for at least as long as his career in technology, hypervisor has been one of those very unsexy things that you bought from one person and you just sort of got on with it.
He added that with VMware, a 400-pound gorilla in that space, they took some decisions that he thinks run counter to both the system integrator side and the customer side. This sentiment reflects a broader industry trend of organizations seeking more flexible and cost-effective virtualization solutions.
