Edu has not attended a single match since February, and his departure has been widely expected by the club's hierarchy. The former Arsenal midfielder's exit marks the end of a brief but high-profile tenure at the City Ground.
His position came under intense scrutiny after a public falling-out with Nuno Espirito Santo, who was dismissed last September as the first of four managers Forest employed last season. Nuno hinted at internal tensions and said at the time his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis had changed.
Syrianos Takes Over as Edu's Role Ends
Edu is not expected to be replaced, with Forest's chief football officer George Syrianos assuming his responsibilities going forward. Appointed in July 2025, Edu's remit included oversight of Greek side Olympiacos and Portuguese club Rio Ave, both owned by Marinakis.
The former Arsenal midfielder arrived after six years at the Gunners, where he became the club's first sporting director in 2022. During his playing career, he won two Premier League titles and two FA Cups with Arsenal.
Giannikos Appointed as New Chief Executive
Edu's departure comes after former Olympiacos vice-president Theodore Giannikos was appointed chief executive last week, replacing Lina Souloukou who stepped down from the role at the City Ground at the end of last season.
