Britain's Arthur Fery has reached his maiden career ATP final at the Winston-Salem Open after Australian James Duckworth retired injured with Fery leading 6-4 1-2, setting up a Saturday showdown against world No 36 Ignacio Buse.
Fery's Path to the Final
The 24-year-old Briton advanced through the ATP 250 event in North Carolina with comfortable wins over Cruz Hewitt and qualifier Mees Rottgering before defeating Aleksandar Kovacevic in three sets in the quarterfinals.
Fery had already beaten Duckworth in Cincinnati two weeks earlier, but the Australian was unable to continue after being injured during the match, allowing Fery to reach his first career ATP final.
Saturday Showdown with Buse
Fery will face Peruvian Ignacio Buse, ranked world No 36, in the final broadcast live on Sky Sports Tennis from 9pm BST. Buse reached the final by defeating Benjamin Bonzi 6-2 4-6 6-1 in a three-set thriller.
The 22-year-old Buse claimed his first tour-level trophy at the ATP 500 in Hamburg in May 2026 and is set to face American Marcos Giron in the first round of the US Open, where he will be seeded.
Fery's Wimbledon Legacy and US Open Debut
Fery, who reached the Wimbledon semi-final earlier this summer, said he is happy to be in the final despite the unusual way the match ended. He praised Buse as a young player breaking out and acknowledged the tough challenge ahead.
Fery is set to make his main draw debut at the US Open starting on Sunday, where he will face Italy's world No 14 Lorenzo Musetti in the opening round. The US Open is live on Sky Sports from August 30.
