NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman welcomed the Republic of Türkiye as the 71st signatory of the Artemis Accords at a ceremony held at NASA headquarters in Washington on Monday, marking a new chapter in international cooperation for peaceful lunar exploration.

Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır signed the agreement on behalf of Türkiye, while the President of the Turkish Space Agency Yusuf Kıraç and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Space and Environment Connor Tomlinson also took part in the event.
The signing underscores Türkiye's growing role in global space diplomacy and its alignment with the Artemis framework, which was established in 2020 by NASA, the State Department, and seven founding nations to promote safe and coordinated exploration of the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
Türkiye's Spaceflight Milestones
Türkiye's commitment to space exploration is reflected in its recent achievements, including the 2024 missions of astronaut Alper Gezervaci to the International Space Station on Axiom Mission 3 and Tuva Atasever on the Virgin Galactic 07 suborbital flight, both of which conducted scientific research.
Looking ahead, Türkiye is preparing to launch its first lunar mission, AYAP-1, and will host the International Astronautical Congress in Antalya this October, drawing dozens of Artemis Accords signatories to discuss the future of transparent space exploration.
Artemis Accords Principles and Future Collaboration
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman emphasized that the Artemis Accords principles—exploring peaceably, rendering aid, enabling scientific data access, avoiding interference, and preserving historically significant sites—are being put into practice on the lunar surface through the Moon Base initiative.
Every signatory has been invited to contribute hardware, scientific payloads, technology demonstrations, CubeSats, and other capabilities to future Artemis missions, reinforcing the framework's goal of advancing humanity's return to the Moon and shaping a new era of space innovation.
