President Xasan Sheekh Maxamuud visited the headquarters of the 1st Battalion of the Gorgor Commandos on September 10, 2026, reviewing operational readiness and meeting with military officers and troops from the 21st Battalion who had recently completed advanced training.

During his visit, President Xasan Sheekh Maxamuud received briefings from the battalion headquarters and senior military officers, touring the command offices, the military camp, the battalion hospital, and the recruitment centers to assess the overall condition of the unit.
The inspection was designed to allow the President to examine the general state of the troops, the services they receive, and the level of preparedness they possess for fulfilling their national duties.
President Praises Gorgor Commandos and Orders Enhanced Readiness
President Xasan Sheekh Maxamuud commended the role of the Gorgor Commandos in defending the country and fighting against Al-Shabaab, instructing the troops to strengthen their readiness to ensure the Somali people's goal of a Somalia free from Al-Shabaab.
He also met with units from the 21st Battalion of the Gorgor Commandos, who had recently completed a high-level training program, acknowledging their contributions to the nation's security efforts.
President Acknowledges Türkiye's Support for Somali National Army
In his concluding remarks, President Xasan Sheekh Maxamuud thanked the Government and people of Türkiye for their continuous support in the reconstruction, training, and improvement of the Somali National Army, particularly in the development of the specially trained units of the Gorgor Commandos.
The President emphasized the importance of international partnerships in building the capacity of Somali military forces to protect the sovereignty and security of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
