Amman has formally denounced the entry of Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and a group of settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque, describing the act as a flagrant violation of international law and an unacceptable escalation that desecrates the Noble Sanctuary in Jerusalem.
Jordan Issues Sharp Diplomatic Rebuttal
Jordanian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fuad Majali issued a statement on Monday condemning the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Itamar Ben-Gvir, the extremist national security minister in the Israeli occupation government, alongside an entourage of extremist settlers while escorted by the occupation police.
Majali stressed that this move flagrantly violates international law and international humanitarian law, arguing that the action constitutes an unacceptable escalation and provocation that brazenly goes at variance with the historic and legal status quo in the Noble Sanctuary in Jerusalem.
Israel Deprived of Sovereignty Over Holy Sites
Majali warned of the consequences of these continued breaches, stressing that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian sanctities, and flatly pushed back against the ongoing intrusions by ministers and officials in the occupation government alongside extremist settlers.
He likewise called for halting all measures that encumber worshipers' access to the Mosque, underscoring that the infiltration desecrates the holy place and must be met with firm international action to restore the sanctity of the site.
International Community Urged to Act
Consequently, Majali implored the international community to take a tough position that compels Israel, as the de facto occupying power, to cease its unlawful violations and actions toward the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
The Jordanian government made it clear that it will not remain silent in the face of such provocations and expects the global community to hold the occupying authority accountable for its continued breaches of the status quo at the Noble Sanctuary.
