Israel has conducted a drone strike in southern Lebanon, killing one and injuring 11, Lebanese media reports. The strike targeted a prayer area in a cemetery, and caused a fire and explosion. This came shortly after an Israeli warning ordering residents to leave their homes.
The Israeli army said the strikes were in response to what it described as a “violation of the ceasefire” by Hezbollah, despite ongoing US-sponsored negotiations between Israel and Lebanon in Rome.
Regional Impact
Iranian sources say a deal with Oman on the Strait of Hormuz is close to concluding, which would give Tehran control over the inbound route and Muscat partial control over the outbound one. Iran says the deal would not lead to an immediate reopening of the strait, and that US President Trump’s threats are currently the biggest obstacle to the conclusion of the negotiations.
Yemen’s Houthis say they have attacked a Saudi oil tanker in the northern Red Sea, marking the eighth such attack in the past two weeks.
