Officials confirmed that the incident, which unfolded on Monday, left seven people dead and more than a dozen injured, with over a dozen individuals rushed to hospitals for treatment. Videos from news agency ANI showed relatives gathering in hospitals as rescuers brought in the wounded.
Shailendra Kumar, a civil official, stated that more than a dozen people were taken to hospital for treatment, while Shivam Kumar, a senior police officer, told ANI that an electric pole fell and people were electrocuted, leading to a stampede-like situation.
Context of the Devotees' Rush
The incident occurred during the holy month of Shravan, when devotees rushed to the Ashok Dham temple in Lakhisarai to offer water to the Hindu god Shiva, according to the Press Trust of India news agency.
Shivam Kumar added that the exact reason for the incident could only be confirmed after verifying all details, while the Bihar Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, expressed deep distress over the deaths of the devotees.

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary wrote on X that the incident was extremely tragic and heartbreaking, offering heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and instructing the administration to ensure proper treatment for the injured.
