Grief and Prayer at the Mystic Mandala Meditation Center
The Mystic Mandala Meditation Center in Plano, Texas, was filled with the scent of incense, sitar music and chants as mourners gathered to honor the victims of the devastating floods that ravaged dozens of communities in Nepal. Many attendees are still waiting for news about friends, family members and neighbors who may have been swept away by the mudslides.
Vijay Moksha, the founder of the meditation center, said the tragedy has given people a deeper appreciation for life. He noted that individuals are now more aware that their lives are worth something, and the community has come together in solidarity to offer prayers and support.
Fundraisers and Vigils Across the Dallas Area
Several organizations, including various religious faiths, are organizing vigils, memorials and fundraisers in the Dallas area to help Nepal. One fundraiser was held to support Nepal's prime minister's disaster relief fund, drawing a full house of attendees eager to contribute to the cause.
Dipesh Raj Pandey, who grew up in Kathmandu and has lived in Texas for over two decades, expressed his gratitude for the global outpouring of support. He described Nepal as a place of towering mountains, hills and flatlands where crops grow, and emphasized that the worldwide unity in the face of this tragedy gives him hope in humanity.
A Global Community United in Compassion
Ustad Tari Khan, widely recognized as one of the top tabla players in the world, came to the meditation center to play original compositions as a prayer for healing. He expressed his sadness and praised the collective effort to help those affected by the floods.
The Nepali community in North Texas, which numbers around 22,000 people, is determined to assist their home country. While the Nepalese community is doing what it can, the broader international support has provided a sense of hope and solidarity to those grieving the immense loss.
