Arday, alumnii iyo dad deegaan ayaa fadhi furasho joogto ah ku mudaaharaadaya amarka dhismayaasha ee ay dawladdu ku tilmaantay mid sharci darro ah.
In ka badan 100 qof ayaa fadhiyay roobaar iyagoo u adkaysanaya kulaylka July ee Rampur, India, iyagoo kor u qaadaya banaankooda qaranka. Koox arday, alumnii iyo dad deegaan ah ayaa qabta fadhi furasho aan xad lahayn si ay u diidaan burburinta 38 ka mid ah 40 dhisme ee Jaamacadda Mohammad Ali Jauhar.
Asalka Jaamacadda iyo Amarka Burburinta
Jaamacadda waxaa aasaasay siyaasadda Muslimka ah ee caanka ah Azam Khan oo ka tirsan degmada Rampur ee gobolka Uttar Pradesh. Khan wuxuu aasaasay Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust sanadkii 2003, taasoo kormaraysay aasaaskii jaamacadda saddex sano ka dib.
Maamulka degmada Rampur ayaa soo saaray amar 15-kii July ah oo dhammaystiran in la dumiyo inta badan dhismayaasha jaamacadda, iyagoo ku eedeeyay inay ku xad-gudbeen qawaaniinta. Kaliya laba dhisme, oo ay ku jirto dhisme kuliyadda caafimaadka la soo jeediyay, ayaa la dhisay oggolaansho sax ah.
Diidmada iyo Doodaha Sharciga ah
Maamulkii gobolku wuxuu soo saaray amar-joojin ku meel gaar ah Isniintii, laakiin si cad uma uusan sheegin in burburintii la joojiyay. Maamulaha jaamacadda Zaheeruddin wuxuu Al Jazeera u sheegay in amarka-joojintu aanu ka dhigan in burburinta la joojiyay.
Zaheeruddin wuxuu yiri: 'They are simply using this as a tool against the visionary Azam Khan, who created this university for the upliftment of the minorities, the poor, and the underprivileged.'. Jaamacaddu waxay hadda raadineysaa xukun tirtira amarka burburinta gebi ahaanba.
Doodaha Siyaasadda iyo Ardayda
Xildhibaan Samajwadi Party Javed Ali Khan ayaa Al Jazeera u sheegay in amarka burburinta uu yahay 'vendetta politics by a ruling dispensation opposed to education and intent on keeping people illiterate'. U doodaha BJP Rakesh Tripathi wuxuu amarka ku tilmaamay mid 'in line with legal procedures against illegal construction'.
Tripathi wuxuu accused Samajwadi Party of playing 'appeasement politics'. Wuxuu yiri: 'Can anyone deny that Azam Khan built this university on illegal land? He used his position and power during the Samajwadi Party government to construct this university on illegal land and erect illegal buildings.'.
Authorities order removal of 38 of 40 structures over alleged regulatory violations; students and alumni protest in Rampur
More than 100 people are sitting cross-legged on mats in Rampur, India, braving July heat while waving the national flag. Students, alumni and residents are holding an indefinite sit-in against the planned demolition of 38 of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University's 40 buildings.
Demolition order and interim stay
On July 15, the Rampur district administration issued an order to demolish most university buildings, alleging regulatory violations. Only two structures, including a proposed medical college block, had valid approvals. Authorities ordered removal of illegal buildings by August 5.
If the university failed to comply, authorities said they would use bulldozers and recover costs. On Monday, an interim stay was issued without explicitly halting demolition. Vice Chancellor Zaheeruddin told Al Jazeera the stay does not mean demolition is called off.
Founder and political context
The university was founded by Muslim politician Azam Khan in Rampur district, Uttar Pradesh. He established the Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust in 2003, which oversaw the university's establishment three years later. Khan is a Samajwadi Party founder.
Uttar Pradesh has been governed by the BJP since 2017. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is a hardline Hindu monk. After 2017, nearly 100 cases were filed against Khan; dozens relate to the university. He is currently serving sentences from 2022 and May this year.
Campus response and statements
Nearly 3,000 students study at the 250-acre campus; since July 15, students and alumni have sat outside the main gate demanding withdrawal. More than a third are Hindus. Iqra, a law student, said girls will never get another chance if demolished.
BJP spokesman Rakesh Tripathi said the order is legal against illegal construction and accused Samajwadi Party of appeasement. Zaheeruddin said RDA jurisdiction came in 2024, so approval was not required. He called the move a violation of education rights.
