Persistent heavy rainfall has triggered severe flooding across northern and north-central Viet Nam, with three deaths confirmed in Phu Tho and thousands of homes inundated. The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued further warnings as river levels are expected to rise through 25 September.
Casualties and Housing Damage in Phu Tho
The Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control reported on 21 September 2026 that three deaths remain confirmed in Phu Tho province. Eight houses had collapsed and 144 were damaged in the area.
Approximately 3,462 houses remained flooded, mainly in Ha Noi and Ninh Binh, down from 5,099 in the previous report. Provincial authorities continue to verify the extent of damage and humanitarian needs.
Agricultural and Aquaculture Losses
The latest assessment recorded 10,120 ha of rice and other crops, 2,324 ha of additional crops and 7,047.1 ha of aquaculture affected across the disaster zone.
In Lam Dong, the Department reported 35 damaged houses, with 82 ha of rice and 68.8 ha of other crops affected between 20 and 21 September.
Ongoing Flash Flood and Landslide Warnings
On 22 September, the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF) issued further warnings of flash floods and landslides for Hue, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai and Dak Lak.
River levels from Hue to Lam Dong are expected to rise through 25 September, increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying areas, as well as flash floods and landslides.
