Kenya Airways has parted ways with its acting CEO, Capt George Kamal, who resigned for personal reasons after more than a year in the role. Kamal joined the airline's executive team as Chief Operating Officer, a position he held for three years before ascending to Acting Group Managing Director and CEO. During his tenure, he helped stabilise operations and led the executive team in implementing the ongoing turnaround strategy.
Waswani's Appointment and Qualifications
Habil Waswani, currently Company Secretary and Director of Legal Services and Regulatory Compliance, will take over the acting CEO role on September 15. He brings more than 24 years of experience in corporate and commercial law and has worked at Kenya Airways for over five years.
The Board described Waswani as an experienced corporate governance practitioner with previous experience in the banking and insurance sectors. It expressed full support for his appointment, stating it wishes him well in the new role as he takes charge during the interim period.
Airline's Turnaround Strategy Continues
Kenya Airways said it would continue implementing its turnaround strategy, with key objectives including improving operational reliability, returning to sustainable positive financial performance and achieving growth ambitions. The Board credited Kamal with bringing immense expertise and experience in aviation during his time at the helm.
