25 Sano ka hor siyaasiyiintii uu xiray Afewerki ee aan weli xaalkooda war laga haynin
Hanna Petros Solomon ayaa xusuusay in 25 sano ka hor ay iyo walaalaheed ku noqdeen agoon markii aababood, Petros Solomon, lagu xiray Eritrea iyadoo aan maxkamad la soo taagin, halkaas oo uu ahaa wasiirka arrimaha dibadda iyo gaashaandhigga.
Dagaalkii xornimada iyo xilalkii aabbe
Waalidkeed waxay isku barteen dagaalkii xornimada ee Eritrea ku dooneysay in ay kaga go'do Itoobiya, halkaas oo aabbaheed, Petros Solomon, ka mid ahaa hoggaamiyeyaashii sare ee dagaalka.
Xornimada kaddib, wuxuu noqday wasiirka gaashaandhigga, dabadeedna wasiirka arrimaha dibadda, wuxuuna madax ka ahaa wasaaradda kalluumaysiga markii dhibaatadu bilaabmeysay.
G-15 iyo xarigii September 2001
Bishii May sanadkii 2001-dii ayey isaga iyo 14 siyaasi oo kale saxiixeen warqad furan oo ku socotay madaxweyne Isaias Afewerki taas oo ugu baaqeysay in la hirgeliyo dastuur lana ansixiyo xornimada kaddib, waxayna sidoo kale dalbadeen doorashooyin qaran.
Isaias, oo ahaa hoggaamiyihii jabahadda EPLF ee dagaal kula jirtay Itoobiya, si fiican uma arag dhaliishaas, balse 18-kii September ayey ciidamada ammaanka amar ka heleen madaxweynaha, waxayna isku diyaariyeen bannaanka guryaha 11 sarkaal oo sare oo ka tirsanaa dowladda.
Hooyada iyo caruurta oo ku noqday agoon
Hanna iyo saddexdeeda walaalo waxay la joogeen ayeydood maadama hooyadood, Aster Yohannes, ay Mareykanka waxbarasho ugu maqneyd, balse markii dambe waxay ku soo laabatay dalka kadib ballanqaad, iyadoo la sheegay in lagu hayo xabsiga Karshelli.
Dhammaan codsiyadii la xiriiray xogtooda lama dhageysan, Hanna ayeydeed waxaa la siiyay digniin ah in ay joojiso su'aalaha ay madaxda weydiineyso, halkaas oo ay ku jirto in aabbaheed lagu hayo xabsi meel fog ku yaal oo loo yaqaan Ela-Ero.
Hanna Petros Solomon, now 35, remembers the day her father, a national hero and former defence minister, was arrested in exercise clothes while jogging. Her mother followed two years later, and both remain in unacknowledged detention, with no trial or contact with their families.
A Hero's Fall
Petros Solomon was one of Eritrea's top leaders during its independence war against Ethiopia and later served as defence and foreign affairs minister. In May 2001, he and 14 other senior politicians signed an open letter to President Isaias Afewerki demanding the country's 1997 constitution be implemented and national elections held.
On 18 September 2001, acting on presidential orders, security forces surrounded the homes of 11 senior officials in Asmara. Petros was arrested while leaving his house in exercise clothes, and his mother, Aster Yohannes, was detained shortly after. Hanna, then 10, last saw her father running with a shukumaan on his arm.
A Mother's Betrayal
Aster Yohannes, who was in the United States for education, was deeply shocked by the arrests. She requested passports for her children but was denied and told to return to Eritrea. After two years of anxiety, the government gave her a promise, and she returned in December 2003, only to find her bags being unloaded at Asmara airport without her appearing in arrivals.
Hanna later learned that President Isaias had personally promised Aster nothing would happen to her. The family waited at the airport, but a government official called to confirm her bags had arrived, implying she had landed but was not coming home. All requests for information about the G-15 members were ignored, and Hanna was warned to stop asking questions.
Voices of Exile
Hanna left Eritrea clandestinely without a passport and now lives in the United States as a trauma therapist. Her father is believed to be held in a secret prison called Ela-Ero, along with the other 14 G-15 members arrested in September 2001. They are accused of treason but have never been brought to court and are not allowed to see their families.
Ibrahim Sherifo, now 38, lives in exile in the Netherlands after being granted asylum. His father, Mahmoud Ahmed Sherifo, was a minister and vice-president before being arrested. Human rights organisations, including the UN, consider the G-15 members to be political prisoners and have called for their release for years.
