Wasiiradda Caddaaladda Imaaraadka iyo Ireland ayaa si wada jir ah ugu tilmaamay Kinahan 'one of the most high-profile individuals sought for prosecution in connection with transnational organized crime.' Sean McGovern ayaa 2024 la soo saaray, 24 sano xabsi loogu xukumay.

Helen McEntee waxay ku tidhi 'the culmination of years of determined work'.
Daniel Kinahan, 49, has been formally charged with directing a criminal organisation after being extradited from the United Arab Emirates to Ireland, marking a major milestone in the pursuit of one of the world's most wanted crime figures.
Extradition and Immediate Charges
Kinahan arrived in Ireland on Sunday following his extradition from the UAE, where he had lived openly for approximately a decade. He was arrested in April after Ireland issued a warrant for alleged serious organised crime offences, and prosecutors moved quickly to charge him upon his arrival.
Irish media reported that a special security convoy would be deployed to escort Kinahan to the Special Criminal Court, which handles offences related to terrorism and organised crime. The move underscores the gravity of the charges and the high-risk nature of the proceedings.
The Scale of the Alleged Criminal Network
Kinahan is accused of leading a cartel linked to drug smuggling and money laundering, which Irish police estimate is worth more than €1 billion ($1.15 billion). The group is thought to be the most powerful criminal organisation in Ireland and has been involved in a brutal feud since February 2016 that has resulted in 18 murders.
The United States imposed sanctions on Kinahan in 2022 after linking his organisation to some of the world's most notorious crime networks and offered a reward of up to $5 million for information leading to his arrest. The US Treasury Department stated that the group has been involved in a gang war in Ireland and Spain, resulting in numerous murders, including of two innocent bystanders.
Diplomatic and Political Reactions
In a joint statement, the justice ministers of the UAE and Ireland called Kinahan 'one of the most high-profile individuals sought for prosecution in connection with transnational organised crime.' Irish Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan described the extradition as a 'landmark of judicial cooperation with Dubai,' adding that it 'sends a clear message that suspected perpetrators of serious and organised crime will find no safe haven from justice.'
Foreign Minister Helen McEntee hailed the outcome as 'the culmination of years of determined work' by Irish authorities under various governments. Kinahan is the second senior member of the cartel to be extradited from Dubai; Sean McGovern was extradited in 2024 and was ultimately sentenced to 24 years in prison after pleading guilty to directing organised crime and attempted murder.
