Cirifka Cimilada iyo Jawaabta
Saynisyahannadu waxay ka digayaan daruuraha pyrocumulonimbus ee aan horey loo arag Yurubta. Ururada dab-demiyeeyaasha Faransiiska ayaa AFP ku sheegay: 'We have reached a point of operational impossibility'. Waxay ahayd mid aan horey loo arag France.
Macron wuxuu qabtay shir xalin khatar ah Monday. Midowga Yurub wuxuu Greece iyo Italy diray diyaarad, Portugalna 100 askari. Turkey waxay ballan qaaday 2 diyaarad. Caawimaad caalami ah ayaa lagama maarmaan u ahayd.
Wildfires are rampaging through vast areas of southwestern Europe, forcing France and Spain to evacuate more than 325,000 people from their homes. Some of the worst fires in France since World War II follow record-breaking heatwaves that scorched the continent weeks earlier.
Scale of Destruction and Displacement
About 115,000 hectares have burned in France since the start of the year, while Spain saw 119,458 hectares burnt by July 22 per Copernicus EFFIS data. More than 150,000 hectares have burned across Spain since January, six times the area lost in the same period last year, said Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
Authorities have evacuated about 220,000 in France and 75,000 in Spain, with 30,000 more ordered to shelter in place. A wildfire in Andalusia killed at least 12 on July 10, and by July 20 fires reached Madrid, where 10,000 were evacuated.
Emergency Declarations and Response
On July 24, Spanish authorities declared a national emergency, calling two major blazes 'out of control'. French PM Sebastien Lecornu wrote on X Saturday: 'The fires which are hitting our country have reached a level that has never been seen before'. Macron held a cabinet crisis meeting Monday.
Sanchez visited Avila on Sunday; more than 45,000 hectares burned in Avila, Madrid and Toledo. He will declare a civil protection emergency Tuesday for central provinces to unlock recovery funding. EU aid includes Greek and Italian aircraft to Spain and Portuguese personnel.
Unprecedented Fire Behavior
Scientists warn pyrocumulonimbus clouds, unprecedented in southwest Europe, are forming. The British Royal Meteorological Society says these are thunder clouds 'created by intense heat from the Earth's surface' that hinder firefighters.
An FNSPF spokesman told AFP: 'We have reached a point of operational impossibility that requires us to accept the need for strategic retreat'. He added: 'The situation on the ground is defensive rather than offensive; it is a war-like scenario where we are under constant bombardment'.
