Despite the new 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop meeting the system requirements for a Copilot Plus PC, Microsoft is no longer using the name. Brett Ostrom, CVP of Microsoft Surface, confirmed to Windows Central that these devices are not branded as Copilot Plus PCs.

Partners Agree the Era Has Ended
Kedar Kondap, Qualcomm's SVP of compute and gaming, told Windows Central that the brand's time is done. He noted that computers offering the same AI experiences will probably not use the Copilot Plus PC branding going forward.
The move acknowledges that the original promise of the label—exclusive AI hardware—has been fulfilled across the market. With AI features now standard, the differentiation the brand provided is no longer meaningful to consumers.
A New Chapter for Microsoft Hardware
Microsoft's flagship hardware is set to feature Nvidia chips, which are expected to usher in a new era of personal AI in Windows. This partnership marks a strategic pivot away from the Qualcomm-based Copilot Plus branding.
On October 7th, Microsoft will host a conversation on how local AI will shape the next chapter of the PC. The event is expected to introduce a fresh brand or concept to replace the retiring Copilot Plus PC label.
