Rodri's contract and recent form
Rodri has a year left on his contract and has been linked with Real Madrid after guiding Spain to World Cup glory this month. He was named player of the tournament. The midfielder missed most of City's 2024-25 campaign with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
His past two seasons have been heavily disrupted by injury, limiting his availability for club and country. Despite the setbacks, Rodri remains central to City's plans under Maresca. The club has not indicated any change to his status ahead of the new season.
Gvardiol commits to City long term
Defender Josko Gvardiol has signed a new five-year deal keeping him at Manchester City until summer 2031. The 24-year-old Croatia international has made 122 appearances since joining from RB Leipzig in August 2023. He won the Premier League in his first campaign.
Gvardiol has won six trophies with City across all competitions to date. His contract extension provides stability in defense as the club enters a new era under Maresca. The agreement was previously reported by BBC Sport in June this year.
