Australian netball stars react to missing live linear broadcast at Commonwealth Games
The Diamonds opened the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games with dominant netball wins, but neither match aired live on Seven's TV channels. Both games were shown only on 7Plus streaming, leaving players and some fans disappointed at the limited linear coverage.
TV schedule leaves netball off linear channels
The Diamonds beat Tonga 99-38 and England 66-47 at Glasgow 2026, with the England match on Sunday against the 2018 champion Roses. Neither contest appeared live on Seven's linear channels; only 7Plus carried them live while Seven broadcast swimming heats.
On Sunday prime time, Seven aired the 2021 Ryan Reynolds film Free Guy on Mate and crime drama Vera on TWO during the Roses match. The main channel later delayed the Australia-England game after swimming, though it noted the Diamonds were live on Plus.
Players learn of broadcast gap after match
ABC Sport told Diamonds players post-game that fans could not watch live on TV. Goalkeeper Courtney Bruce said: 'That's obviously disappointing, obviously we want to be on TV and have every fan able to watch. I wasn't aware of that.'
Debutant Jamie-Lee Price said: 'I didn't realise that. We want to be on TV, we want eyes on our sport and if we can get that that's amazing. So, yes please.' She also said: 'I think maybe if we put lots of pressure on maybe we can get there.'
Support felt amid streaming-only coverage
Bruce noted home backing: 'We definitely feel the support from home, obviously we're nothing without the supporters back in Australia.' In Glasgow's Hydro, Australian fans challenged English supporters for volume and passion during play.
Seven told ABC: 'The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games features multiple events taking place simultaneously, which is why Seven is delivering wall-to-wall coverage across Seven and 7plus Sport — including 15 live channels on 7plus Sport — ensuring Australians can watch every event live and free.'
