His most celebrated moment came in 1982 when he started Villa's 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the European Cup final. However, he was forced off after just nine minutes due to a neck injury, with Nigel Spink replacing him for the remainder of the match.

Before his Villa years, Rimmer was part of the Manchester United squad that defeated Benfica to win the 1968 European Cup. Although he was on the bench during the decisive match, the achievement remains a defining chapter in his career.
