Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix returned to the lineup Friday with a touchdown pass in 14 snaps, marking an eight-month comeback from a fractured right ankle that sidelined him through the AFC Championship Game.
Ankle Injury and Recovery Timeline
Nix fractured his right ankle late in the Broncos' divisional round win over the Buffalo Bills in January, missing the AFC Championship Game and undergoing two surgeries, including one in April to clean up bone spurs. He was held out of most offseason drills but threw on a limited basis during mandatory minicamp in June.
He has taken all of his scheduled snaps in training camp practices and did not play in the Broncos' preseason opener in Atlanta last week. Coach Sean Payton said Nix would play about 14 snaps Friday, and he was at 14 just before the final field goal.

In 14 snaps, Nix finished 6-of-9 passing for 76 yards and a touchdown. On the opening series, he was 3-of-4 with a 21-yard touchdown pass to running back RJ Harvey, and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle made his first reception since being traded from the Miami Dolphins with a 35-yard catch-and-run to convert a third down.

Postgame Reactions and Outlook
Nix said he felt like he was exactly where he left off last season and treated the snaps like a practice rep. He was excited but not nervous about returning, and praised Waddle and Harvey as special football players who add a lot to the team.
Payton called Nix's effort solid but had little good to say about the rest of the Broncos' performance, citing too many minus plays and penalties. Ehlinger said Nix did a great job and was right back to postseason form, and Payton said Nix will play at least some in the preseason finale next Friday against the Minnesota Vikings.
