Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Cirro met international community representatives in Nairobi to discuss security progress, development priorities and the path toward broader recognition.
Security and Stability as Top Priorities
President Cirro told the gathering that peace and stability remain the foremost priorities of his administration. He reported that more than 6,000 clan-based militia members, along with their equipment, have been formally integrated into Somaliland's security forces after receiving training.
On the issue of clashes in western Somaliland, including the situation in Las Anod, the President said his government is committed to resolving the matter through dialogue, reconciliation and peaceful means rather than force.
Development Agenda and Infrastructure Focus
The President outlined his government's development priorities, highlighting investments in roads, water, energy, healthcare, education and telecommunications. He pointed to projects aimed at reducing electricity costs, expanding clean energy and exploring underground water resources as key initiatives.
President Cirro called on the international community to support Somaliland through expertise, technical assistance and technology, urging partners to assess the country based on its current achievements and institutional development.
International Recognition and Partnership Vision
Describing Israel's recognition of Somaliland on 26 December 2025 as a historic event, the President said it does not mark the end of Somaliland's efforts to secure wider international recognition. He reiterated that the country's aspirations are grounded in security, stability, democracy and functioning state institutions.
President Cirro emphasised that Somaliland does not seek aid alone but wants to demonstrate its achievements and identify opportunities for mutually beneficial investment and cooperation based on mutual respect, facts and shared interests.
