Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier announced at a Friday news conference that an arrest warrant has been issued for Karen Solomon on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon with serious bodily injury. Saucier stated that Solomon is considered armed and dangerous in connection with the death of her husband, Kurt Solomon, 57, a 31-year police veteran and father of two.
The nature of Kurt Solomon's injuries was described as a sharp object, and his service weapon was confirmed to not be missing from the scene. Surveillance cameras captured Karen Solomon walking on the street after the incident, prompting police to classify her as a person of interest in the investigation.
Extensive Search Operations Underway
Search crews, including police and U.S. Marshals service, suspended their fourth day of operations Friday evening while continuing to pursue leads. Crews deployed helicopters, divers, sonar and dogs during a search of Coes Reservoir, with Chief Saucier confirming they are still actively pursuing the area.
Several public areas near the reservoir, including parks, were closed indefinitely as crews plan to resume operations Saturday morning. The Worcester Police Department is asking anyone who sees Karen Solomon to contact them by texting 274637 or calling 508-799-8606.
Karen Solomon's Background and Community Role
Karen Solomon, 58, is the founder of First HELP, a non-profit organization dedicated to first responder suicide prevention. The group provides support to officers dealing with mental health situations and raises awareness for suicide prevention among first responders and their families.
