Saudi Arabia's Grand Mufti, Saleh Al-Fawzan, issued a fatwa calling on the kingdom's armed forces to defend the country and wage jihad against the Houthis. He described the troops as those standing at the front lines of the conflict and urged them to always be ready to fulfill their duties, obey commanders, and execute orders at the highest level.
Al-Fawzan also addressed the coalition forces, telling them they are fighting an enemy who has spread chaos, divided the people, undermined leadership, and sought to harm sacred Muslim sites. He called for unity, cooperation, and a single stance among the forces.
Houthi Missiles Hit Saudi Arabia; France Pledges Defense
On Thursday, Saudi Arabia said it intercepted six ballistic missiles fired by the Houthis, with attacks targeting the cities of Dammam and Yanbu. Meanwhile, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree announced strikes on a sensitive target in Riyadh and a separate operation against the Aramco facility in Yanbu, using dozens of ballistic missiles and drones.
French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that Paris would send military equipment, including soldiers, radar systems, and defense systems, to protect Yanbu. He stated that while France would not engage in combat, it would safeguard the site, which previously saw over five million barrels of oil pass through daily, warning that any disruption would directly affect global oil prices.
Saudi, Pakistan and Turkey Hold Security Talks in New York
Foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey met in New York to discuss the framework of the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement. They expressed condemnation of attacks on Makkah and civilian and economic facilities in the kingdom, affirming the right to take necessary defensive measures under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
The ministers also discussed preparations for an upcoming emergency meeting of military chiefs from the three countries, aimed at coordinating support for the kingdom under the Makkah agreement, which treats any attack on one party as an attack on all.
