US President Donald Trump has formally rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, telling reporters at the White House that he has turned down Tehran's deal to end hostilities in the Middle East.
Trump Rejects the Iranian Proposal
President Trump told reporters at the White House on Saturday that he had rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and bring about an end to hostilities. He said, 'I reject their proposal... I rejected their deal,' before departing for Tennessee by helicopter.

He claimed that Iran wants to make a deal because it is losing badly, adding, 'We're winning tremendously.' He said, 'I'd like to make a deal, too. But that deal would not be acceptable.'
Iran's Seven-Day Roadmap
Iran had proposed an initiative aimed at reopening the strategic waterway at the UN General Assembly in New York, which it said could put an end to fighting within seven days. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Friday that Tehran formally submitted a seven-day roadmap to the US via mediator Qatar, and was awaiting Washington's response.
The plan included waiving sanctions on Iranian oil sales and releasing an estimated $12bn in frozen Iranian assets. Araghchi said the plan had foreseen a cessation of all hostilities across the Middle East, including in Lebanon, with the Strait of Hormuz to be reopened on the seventh day of the truce.
Iran's Position on the Crisis
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told Al Jazeera that Tehran no longer trusts negotiations with the US after previous rounds of talks were followed by attacks and sanctions. He said, 'We have no trust in the American side and do not know on what basis an understanding can be reached with it.'
Pezeshkian denied that Iran was responsible for blocking the Strait of Hormuz, saying the US 'closed the routes before us.' He said the crisis could be resolved through negotiations rather than force, and that the waterway would reopen to commercial shipping if talks ended the war.
