A 14-year-old boy, who was also inside the vehicle and suffered leg injuries, was arrested at the scene. An 18-year-old man was later arrested, and both are currently held at John Hunter Hospital under police guard.
Police confirmed that two other occupants of the car fled the scene before officers arrived, leaving the two arrested individuals as the only ones detained in connection with the incident.
Stolen Vehicle and Police Appeal
Following inquiries, police confirmed that the SUV involved in the crash had been stolen from the Swansea area overnight. The vehicle was later recovered at the crash site in Lake Macquarie.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward with information about the incident. A report will be prepared for the coroner in connection with the death of the 13-year-old boy.
